Electrical budget for PSA nitrogen generation units: A PSA nitrogen generation system consists of three components – an air compressor, air pre-treatment equipment, and pressure swing adsorption nitrogen generation equipment. The pressure swing adsorption nitrogen generation equipment is the key component; once this device is selected, corresponding air compressors and air dryers must be installed to ensure the proper operation of the entire PSA nitrogen generation system. The electrical power consumption of this entire system comes mainly from the control system of the nitrogen generator, as well as from the air compressor and air dryer. For an nitrogen generation unit with a purity of 99.99% and a capacity of 20 Nm3/h, the electrical requirements are as follows: an air compressor with a capacity of 3.4 m3/min and a dryer with a capacity of 2.4 Nm3/min are necessary. The power consumption of the nitrogen generation control system remains relatively constant, at around 80 watts. The standard power consumption of the 3.4 m3/min air compressor is 22 kW, while that of the 2.4 Nm3/min dryer is 12 kW. Thus, the total power consumption of the PSA nitrogen generation unit is 80 watts + 22 kW + 12 kW, which equals 34.008 kW. The actual electrical cost can be calculated by taking into account the local electricity rates.
