At around 3 p.m. on the 20th local time, an explosion occurred at a fireworks market in Tultepec, Mexico State. Photos and videos from the scene of the explosion show that a large number of ignited fireworks created grayish-white mushroom clouds dozens of meters high. Following the explosion, military and police forces, as well as fire and medical services from Mexico City and the state of Mexico, rushed to the scene to handle the situation and provide assistance. The military and police set up barriers around the explosion site and evacuated nearby residents to prevent further damage from possible secondary explosions. It is reported that the market experienced two explosion incidents in 2006 and 2007 respectively, which almost reduced it to rubble.
