What are the reasons for the low potassium permanganate value in pure methanol? What substances are responsible for that?
In a certain company’s distillation unit, it takes 50 minutes for potassium permanganate to be produced in the pressurized tower, while this time is less than 10 minutes in the atmospheric pressure tower. It’s not high even after mixing. Substances that have an impact are likely reducing substances such as formaldehyde.
There should be more light components, but if too many of these light components are removed, where do they go? We’ll just empty it directly

Alkenes and alkynes; 2. Organic aldehydes; 3. Formic acid; 4. Ferrocyanide; 5. Amines. In fact, methanol itself also reacts slowly with potassium permanganate, but this reaction takes more than 60 minutes. If the reducing substance level exceeds ~40 ppm, the potassium permanganate value will be less than 60 minutes
