Our DCS system does generate reports, but they have never been used because no printers were installed at the operation stations. Later, a printer was installed, and the operator has become familiar with taking handwritten records every day
Our DCS system has just been upgraded; the new system is Siemens PCS7. The reporting system is included with PCS7; the reporting application has not been implemented yet, and the reports are relatively simple, focusing mainly on mutual quantities and some cumulative values. Therefore, our reporting system is planned to be implemented within DCS.
Three years ago, after thorough discussion, the decision was made regarding the DELTAV we developed: to discontinue report printing. Printers are typically used by DCS engineers to modify programs and diagnose faults. The content of the report is required to be updated through maintenance by the workshop. When printing is needed, the operator selects the content to be printed. I believe the retention period for reports is 5 years, with them being made available as needed.
All the control systems here require a report printing function, and the devices provide report formats, but reports are rarely printed; operators still write them by hand. All systems have the capability to store historical data, and their hard drives are large in capacity. Current control systems all have the ability to connect to EXCEL, allowing historical data to be retrieved from there. In this way, the process can enable data analysis. It’s very convenient to retrieve data at any time you want. This is how the systems our company has implemented in recent years have been set up.
All modern control systems have this feature (automated report generation and automatic printing), but our factory doesn’t use it at all; instead, operators enter the data manually. This has one advantage: it keeps the operators constantly aware of any changes in the process parameters
I’m not quite sure what you mean by reports; for all the devices that require a control system, I haven’t seen workers print anything – everything is done manually.
I am also working on system creation and renovation here. Can electronic reports be modified? If it can’t be modified, it might be beneficial for management, but the operators won’t accept it
In fact, many factories still use manual meter reading, especially in state-owned enterprises. There are so many people. In foreign companies, there are few workers, so everything has to be automated. There are a great many various reports, and most of them need to be generated and transmitted automatically.
Reply to 1# WXJ198354: We are using the CS3000 system. As this is a newly established station, we are integrating EXCEL into the reporting system; the reports need to be generated automatically on a daily basis, allow for online editing, and store historical data for one year
