The advantages of membrane separation are low equipment investment and small floor space required. However, compared with pressure swing adsorption for CO purification, the CO product obtained through membrane separation has lower purity and yield, and it is also suitable only for a limited range of feed gases.

I have been working with membrane separation for a few years; it is used to purify CO. The investment required depends on the purity level of CO that needs to be achieved. However, if a higher level of purity is required, then membrane separation becomes less economical. So, the investment decision is mainly based on the requirements for the product gas CO.
