Is an O-type control ball valve what we commonly refer to as a on/off valve?

Are the two the same thing? Ball valves are not suitable for use in regulation, as the O-ring used for this purpose creates an eccentricity, which over time can damage the valve seat and lead to poor sealing. Please ask an expert to answer
The concept of a control valve is too broad; think about what a control valve is – ball valves, butterfly valves, gate valves, and so on can all be considered control valves. Type O ball valves are the most suitable as on/off shut-off valves.
