Pneumatic control valves often produce intermittent sounds similar to those caused by water hammer when fully closed; no abnormalities were found after disassembling the valve. What causes this phenomenon?
Have you checked the process system? Check the valve for any signs of liquid exposure
Personally, I think it is due to the large pressure difference, which causes a certain amount of leakage from the valve.

It can be confirmed that there is an abnormal noise coming from the valve body section
No erosion was found upon disassembly of the valve body; the valve’s sealing rating is grade 5

I’m not aware of your manufacturing process. I have encountered a situation where the vent valve was fully closed, and I could hear the sound of the traps on the adjacent pipelines. Was that helpful to you?
Is it single-seat or cage-type, and what is the caliber? If this phenomenon occurs with large-diameter single units, it’s quite normal; a pressure difference of 40 BAR is not small at all, and leaks are likely to occur when fluid flows from a lower pressure level to a higher one.
Water hammer does not necessarily occur at the control valve; water hammer phenomena are more common in the process pipelines than at the control valves
Try installing a different valve and see how it performs; if there is still noise, it’s likely water hammer in the pipeline
