You mean the sliding bracket, right? . . However, selecting the right type of support is not that simple. Factors such as the nominal diameter of the pipe, the temperature of the medium, calculations of pipeline stress, calculations of thermal displacement at the support points, and offset installation at the base of the support all come into play. Moreover, supports for steam pipes are not all the same; sliding supports, guide supports, and hangers are used in combination with each other.

We used rolling brackets quite often in the past; they have low friction, and we selected them from the manufacturer’s catalog. However, it also has drawbacks: it has built-in guidance, relies on line contact, requires high standards for the pipe support base plates, and its rollers tend to break, which causes a lot of trouble once they fail. If the pipe support falls out of the bracket after overheating, it will pull the bracket off when the temperature drops back down. Based on our many years of experience, it’s basically not needed anymore.
