Many valves have a small circular groove at the bottom; I’m not sure what it’s for Some say it’s to suppress holes; what is this? . .

If it is present in each valve, this area is where traces left by the casting process’s reinforcing ribs are found. To prevent the internal core from shifting, a rib was added at this location during the wax model stage. The cast valve body has a hole in this area; it was later welded back together. Since it was difficult to work on that area internally, a pit remained. This process is not recommended according to standards.
