For jacking pumps, is a straight pipe section also required at the inlet? Also, should the large and small ends be installed near the device port or near the filter?
A book states that it is best to have a straight pipe section at the inlet of a centrifugal pump to stabilize the flow
That is a centrifugal pump for horizontal suction. Regarding top-entry construction, there are no clear specifications in the standards
The pump’s suction inlet should have at least 5 times the length of straight pipe, and fittings such as filters should be placed away from the pump’s suction inlet
The standards specify that a straight pipe section is required for end thrust, while there are no written requirements for jacking
Section 3.1.2.6 of API686 does not specifically state that it must be horizontal
The standards only specify the requirement for a straight pipe section at the inlet; elbows are to be installed at the filter location. There are no written requirements regarding end-mounted centrifugal pumps!
