A flange is a component used to connect shafts to each other, and it is also employed for connecting pipe ends ； There are also flanges used for the import and export of equipment, to connect two devices together, such as reducer flanges. A flange connection or flange joint refers to a detachable connection that consists of a flange, gaskets, and bolts working together as a combined sealing structure. Pipe flanges refer to the flanges used for piping in pipeline systems, while those used on equipment refer to the inlet and outlet flanges of the equipment. The flanges have holes, and bolts are used to hold the two flanges together. The flanges are sealed with gaskets. Flanges are divided into threaded flanges, welded flanges, and clamp flanges. Flanges are always used in pairs; threaded flanges can be used for low-pressure pipelines, while welded flanges are used for pipelines with pressures above 4 kilograms. A gasket is placed between the two flanges, and then they are tightened with bolts. Flanges of different pressures have different thicknesses, and they use different bolts as well. When water pumps and valves are connected to pipes, the corresponding parts of these devices are also made in the shape of flanges, a connection method known as flange coupling. Connecting parts that are sealed by bolted joints around two surfaces are generally referred to as \"flanges\", such as those used for connecting ventilation ducts; such parts can be called \"flange-type parts\". However, such a connection is only a local part of a device; for example, the connection between a flange and a pump doesn’t allow the pump to be called a \"flange-type component\". Smaller items such as valves can be referred to as \"flange components\".
