For general fire protection, I prefer to use flame arrestors. However, I’ve seen many people opt for fire-fusing valves. The principle behind these valves is that the high temperature of the spreading flame causes them to shut off, thereby preventing the spread of fire. But the speed at which flames spread must be quite fast; won’t it take a little too long for such valves to shut off, allowing some fire to get through? It doesn’t seem as good as a flame arrester. Has anyone used this? Could you tell me about the actual usage?

A flame arrester prevents the spread of flames within pipes, while a fire-resistant shut-off valve monitors the ambient temperature; in the event of a fire, when the ambient temperature exceeds a set threshold, the valve is closed. They serve different purposes.
In simple terms, the principle is as follows: when a fire breaks out and the ambient temperature reaches the preset value of the fuse, the fuse blows and cuts off the power supply. This causes the valve actuator, which relies on a spring for reset, to lose its driving force from the spring, thereby allowing the valve to be closed or opened in order to minimize losses. It is a different concept from a pipeline flame arrester; a pipeline flame arrester serves to prevent fires from spreading within the pipeline.
A fuse valve is not used to prevent fire, but rather to block combustible materials. The functions are different.

A fuse valve is used to prevent the leakage of flammable materials during a fire. Its setting temperature is usually around 270°C, which is also the temperature at which a fire first starts. The diameter of the fuse valve and its speed of operation also play a role in this regard. The valves used in our factory can close within 3 seconds after a failure occurs, so there’s no risk of not having enough time to respond. Additionally, the pipes are generally filled with fluid, so the fire will only burn at the pipe openings and the points of leakage, without reaching inside the pipes. Fuse valves are typically installed in storage tanks for liquid flammable materials such as those found in oil depots; they are not used for storing gaseous flammable materials, as it’s pointless to do so – gases usually explode right away.
For gaseous combustibles, detection-type emergency shut-off valves are generally installed; they automatically shut off the flow in the event of a gas leak, thereby eliminating potential hazards before a fire occurs.
