Is it necessary to ensure that the residence time in the sedimentation chamber is greater than 30 seconds during its design? I’ve never seen such a requirement in the design specifications, but since the equipment department has put forward this requirement, there is controversy regarding it.
It depends on the size of the particles settling and their settling speed. The settlement time must be determined through calculation.
The calculated settlement time is 25 seconds; therefore, the length of the settlement chamber is designed based on a residence time of 25 seconds. But equipment specialists say that the residence time must be greater than 30 seconds; it’s a design rule.
