A new type of butterfly valve can be developed, one with a relief function. It has the same functional capabilities as a regular butterfly valve, but with an additional feature: when the valve is fully closed and overpressure occurs, the valve disc is pushed open, thereby allowing for pressure release ； When the pressure drops, the valve disc closes again. It can also be described as a combination of a butterfly valve and a safety valve. The butterfly valve was chosen as the self-relief valve because its disc is suitable for modification into a relief type. This type of valve is suitable for applications where pressure increases are not severe, such as distillation equipment and reactors with mild reactions. If such a valve is installed on the exhaust pipe, for containers where pressure increases not significantly, it is not necessary to install rupture discs or pressure relief pipes ； With the valve for opening and closing, when the equipment does not require exhaust ventilation, closing the valve reduces the amount of air drawn in, thus saving energy consumption of the fan compared to having an unobstructed connection to the exhaust pipe. I searched online, and no valves with this function are available on the market yet; therefore, valve manufacturers can be asked to develop such valves.
