Our factory received a batch of soda ash used for absorbing sulfur dioxide. However, the product turned yellow. Before drying, it had a reddish-yellow hue; after drying, it became completely yellow
The purity is insufficient; it may contain excessive iron content.
Excessive iron content might be one reason; alternatively, elemental sulfur may be precipitating.
This is generally caused by impure soda ash, which contains substances such as ferrous ions. After dissolution, the ferrous ions are oxidized to iron ions, resulting in a yellow color.
It’s probably due to excessive iron content; we can add other additives and see what happens
Is soda ash sodium carbonate? Or should I say solid sodium hydroxide? This should be the process in which ferrous iron is converted into ferric iron; there are quite a few color changes involved. You might want to look up the color changes that occur during the hydrolysis of iron
