I would like to ask the experts here: one of the auxiliary materials used in our facility is liquid chlorine. When dealing with materials contained in pipelines filled with liquid chlorine, vacuuming is usually employed to remove the liquid chlorine, and sodium sulfite is added to the vacuum system to eliminate it. However, this method does not yield good results; every time liquid chlorine-containing materials are processed on site, there is a strong odor of liquid chlorine. I wonder if any expert knows of better methods for dealing with liquid chlorine. Thank you!

Our vacuum system uses caustic soda to treat acidic substances; when liquid chlorine is present, sodium sulfite is added alongside the caustic soda as part of this combined treatment process, and a considerable amount of it is used. However, the effect is not good – the material discharged from our vacuum system has a very strong smell of liquid chlorine, which is quite unpleasant. Our vacuum system is quite complex, so it is not suitable for extracting sodium hypochlorite
Determining the appropriate concentration of the alkaline solution, figuring out how much alkali remains after neutralization, checking whether the alkaline solution is circulated and what the volume of this circulation is – resolving these issues will solve the problem
