1. The by-product steam generator is essentially a boiler that uses the waste heat generated during hydrogen chloride synthesis to produce steam, and it suffers from quite severe oxygen corrosion during operation. This is a study on electrochemical corrosion; in this process, dissolved oxygen in pure water causes corrosion of the iron casing of the synthesis furnace, with the resulting products being Fe(OH)3 and Fe2O3. Furthermore, this reaction is also related to the pH value of water; the lower the pH, the faster the corrosion rate. The pH value of pure water is between 6 and 7, indicating it is weakly acidic. 2. Due to prolonged evaporation of the water in the boiler jacket, the concentration ratio of the water increases gradually, which raises the concentration of hydrogen ions in the water and leads to a decrease in the pH value, thereby accelerating the rate of corrosion further.
The water used in the synthesis furnace for by-product steam must strictly comply with the regulations regarding boiler water; otherwise, long-term operation will cause severe corrosion of the iron jacket.
