I’ve never used it; I guess the maximum efficiency it can achieve isn’t any higher than that of methods using caustic soda!
Using sodium carbonate instead of caustic soda to absorb chlorine generates carbon dioxide, resulting in a loss of product weight; its cost is certainly higher than that of using sodium hydroxide for absorption
It is recommended to use sodium thiosulfate, as it has a relatively high absorption capacity and reacts quickly
To absorb chlorine gas while maintaining a certain level of available chlorine, the solution must be alkaline; moreover, hypochlorous acid is less acidic than carbonic acid, so it is impossible for CO2 gas to be released during absorption!
I’m using this post to ask if there are any articles with experience regarding the use of Na2CO3 for absorbing chlorine gas in this context. The problem I’m facing right now is that the exhaust gases from the manufacturing industry contain both chlorine gas and CO2. When using NaOH to absorb chlorine gas, CO2 is also absorbed due to the high concentration of CO2 present; this results in insufficient absorption of chlorine gas and excessive consumption of the absorbent
I’ve never encountered it; it seems that absorption is possible; It’s not necessarily just sodium hypochlorite; sodium bicarbonate is also present, and this might affect the sales of sodium hypochlorite.
