I would like to ask my colleagues in the chlor-alkali industry: is it possible to maintain a hydrochloric acid concentration of 35% by reducing the absorption temperature in the falling film tower and using chilled water for cooling?
It’s quite difficult; hydrochloric acid is a volatile acid, and its volatility increases with higher concentration. Although low temperatures help increase the concentration, the operating costs will rise significantly. Hydrochloric acid is very cheap now.
