Our company’s liquid chlorine plant utilizes low-temperature and low-pressure liquefaction; the main equipment used is a screw compressor, with Freon serving as the refrigerant. Question: How can one determine whether a compressor isn’t performing well in terms of cooling efficiency? Is it through the suction pressure, discharge pressure, or the temperature of the liquefier... or some other indicators? Our usual remedial measure is to add Freon to the compressor when there is a decrease in liquid chlorine production or when chlorine gas balance cannot be maintained. This does help somewhat, but it’s rather reactive in nature—we can’t detect any issues early on. I hope fellow professionals can provide some insights. #hcbbs
It depends; the system of the original poster has a fairly serious leak. It is recommended to locate the source of the leak. For a Freon-based refrigeration system, topping it up once next year should be sufficient.
The most straightforward way is to **check the motor current. If the motor current is only at a level lower than the motor’s power rating, then the cooling effect is poor. Normally, it should be around 1.5 times the motor’s power rating.** Next is to check the compression ratio, which is the ratio of exhaust pressure to intake pressure (converted to absolute pressure). If the compression ratio is greater than 4, the compressor is functioning properly; if it is less than 4, it’s necessary to investigate the cause. Once again, check the fluid levels. You need to check not only the level in the evaporator but also that in the condenser, to see if there’s a shortage of Freon. The absence of Freon also affects the cooling effect. For other methods, well, different causes lead to different consequences; one must be flexible in handling them. For instance, if the check valve isn’t fully open or the liquid supply valve isn’t opened enough, these are all problems that need to be resolved on-site.
It is recommended to consider this issue from the perspective of energy balance—specifically, the conversion of electrical energy or the heat exchange process, that is, the suction pressure and suction temperature of the unit.
