Foundation laid for China National Petroleum’s first ionic liquid alkylation unit

Recently, the foundation-laying ceremony for Golmud Refinery’s project to produce 50,000 tons of alkylated products per year was held, marking the installation of China National Petroleum Corporation’s first ion liquid-based alkylation unit in a refinery located in a high-altitude area. With the **increasing emphasis on environmental protection, the Golmud Refinery continuously raises its product quality standards, supplying clean energy to the Qinghai-Tibet region and helping to safeguard the ecological environment of the Sanjiangyuan area. Ionic liquid alkylation is a new generation of liquid alkylation technology. Compared with traditional sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid methods, tetra-carbon alkylated gasoline features high octane number, no sulfur, no olefins, and no aromatics. It also offers advantages such as reduced equipment corrosion, lower environmental pollution, lower investment costs, and higher returns, making it an ideal blending component that can fully meet the quality standards for National VI gasoline. The Golmud Refinery’s 50,000-ton-per-year alkylation unit utilizes ion liquid alkylation technology for which domestic intellectual property rights exist; it was constructed by Huanqiu Engineering Company, and is expected to come online in 2018. This unit will serve as a key tool for the refinery to improve product quality, produce clean energy, and protect the ecology of the plateau.
