Why does a liquefied gas pump with a water pump tend to run dry?
It’s not due to a lack of time; it’s probably the pump tripping because of overload.
Yu Gong: This liquefied gas pump is also used as the power source when stopping work to allow water to flow; it seems that overload-related tripping incidents don’t occur very often! The cause of cavitation still tends to occur at the inlet of the pump, where the pressure is low and vaporization results from the poor quality of the medium components!

In 1998, we first came into contact with liquefied gas pumps due to the liquefied gas desulfurization unit; they were used as feed pumps for that unit, and the temperature there was below 40 degrees Celsius. When the unit was shut down, water was used to push the liquefied gas forward, so the motors of these pumps were designed for pumping water. However, we didn’t understand this at the time. When the unit was expanded in 2007, the pumps were replaced with larger models, and their motors were selected for pumping liquefied gas. But when trying to use them to pump water after the unit started up, the motor would trip as soon as the outlet valve was opened. This happened several times (I wasn’t present during the operations; it’s been too long and I can’t remember the exact details). It was hard to understand what was going on. It was only later, when the person in charge of equipment management mentioned the issue related to motor selection, that I learned about it for the first time. Still, I couldn’t understand how it was possible that no water could be pumped at all. (Recently, I heard from someone in the workshop that it was possible to do so if the opening degree of the pump’s outlet valve was controlled properly; finally, this issue got a proper solution.) If the liquefied gas contains water, it should not affect the pressure in the liquefied gas tank before the pump.
