Level gauges and material level gauges are instruments used in industrial production to measure the level of liquids and solids, respectively. It is also an indispensable and irreplaceable on-site monitoring instrument in industrial production, as well as a remote-transmission type instrument. It is widely used in enterprises in the petroleum, chemical, smelting, pharmaceutical, food, cement, power, and other industries. Level gauges and material level gauges are sometimes also referred to as material level transmitters or liquid level transmitters. Next, a brief introduction will be given to the differences between level gauges and material level gauges. A level gauge is a sensor that continuously and in real time monitors changes in the liquid level within a container. Level gauges include: magnetic float level gauges, quartz tube level gauges, insert type level gauges, new type float level gauges, submersible level gauges, wire rope level gauges, capacitive level gauges, and more. The level gauge operates based on the principles of buoyancy and magnetic coupling. As the liquid level in the container under measurement rises or falls, the float in the main tube of the level gauge moves up and down accordingly. The permanent magnet inside the float transmits a magnetic signal to the on-site indicator, causing the red and white flip columns or flaps to rotate 180°. When the liquid level rises, the flip columns or flaps change from white to red; when the liquid level drops, they change from red to white. The boundary between red and white on the indicator represents the actual height of the liquid level in the container, thereby enabling the indication of the liquid level. A level gauge is a sensor that continuously and in real time detects changes in the height of solid materials within a container; examples include level gauges, radio frequency capacitive level switches, radio frequency admittance level gauges, and probe-type level gauges.
Level gauge is a broad concept that includes liquid level gauges. Because the material can be liquid or solid (powdery), it’s just that we are accustomed to using level gauges that display the level of solid materials. Additionally, the level gauge operates based on the principle of a communicating vessel.

Thank you to the original poster for sharing this information; due to our different areas of work, we have only used level gauges, which are also commonly referred to as water level gauges. We didn’t realize that there are also level gauges used for measuring the position of solids, as well as boundary level gauges. There are many different types of level gauges, varying depending on their principle and application areas; these include bubble level gauges, pressure level gauges, float level gauges, and so on.
