We have kept the density of the oil slurry at 930 kg/m3, and the 95% dew point of diesel has been raised to 395°C, yet the density of the oil slurry remains unchanged. Why is this? It is generally understood that raising the 95% point of diesel means that the oil slurry at the bottom of the tower is drawn out more heavily, and the density of this oil slurry should increase.
The density of the slurry is closely related to the properties of the feed material; operating conditions also have an impact. However, a density of 930 kg/m3 is indeed not high. It’s necessary to examine the composition of the slurry – if it contains a high proportion of diesel components, then that constitutes a problem related to separation.
It’s possible to analyze the four components of the slurry; low reaction temperature or insufficient catalyst activity may be responsible for the low degree of cracking. As a result, there are fewer aromatization and coupling reactions, leading to a higher proportion of alkanes in the slurry components and a lower density
This phenomenon also occurred at Liaoyang Petrochemical; at that time, it was attributed to oil sealing. After adjusting the catalyst formula (by adding an additive to the bottom oil), along with measures such as adjusting the binder-to-oil ratio, the density of the slurry is now above 1000
Where does your diesel go? Usually it goes to diesel upgrading units. With a 95% concentration like yours, can those units handle it?
