Henan Refining & Chemical’s first batch of petroleum coke for pre-baked anodes has been shipped

Recently, a truck loaded with petroleum coke YBYJJ-2 for prebaked anodes left the Henan refining and chemical plant. This was the first batch of petroleum coke for prebaked anodes produced by Sinopec’s Henan refining and chemical facility, opening up new avenues for improving the company’s efficiency. Pre-baked anodes are important materials that can conduct electricity and participate in electrochemical reactions during the electrolysis process; they are essential key raw materials in the aluminum electrolysis industry. In recent years, as the electrolytic aluminum industry has developed steadily, the pre-baked anode manufacturing industry has also experienced rapid growth, which has led to higher quality requirements for its raw material, petroleum coke. To enhance the market competitiveness of its high-end petroleum coke products, Henan Refining & Chemicals established a dedicated task force in March this year to carry out joint efforts in the areas of research, development, production, and sales of petroleum coke for pre-baked anodes. The task force, together with the refining and sales company, visited key customers to gain a thorough understanding of their quality requirements for petroleum coke used in pre-baked anodes. Compared to ordinary petroleum coke, petroleum coke used for pre-baked anodes requires strict control over sulfur content, ash content, and trace elements such as sodium and calcium during the production process. To achieve rapid production in line with standards, the task force established a regular meeting system for problem-solving, conducted reviews of production processes, summarized experiences, made timely adjustments, and standardized operating procedures. It also explored and developed new processing methods such as separate storage and refining of crude oil, as well as static sedimentation of oil slurry. Through repeated adjustments, the qualified petroleum coke product YBYJJ-2 for pre-baked anodes was successfully produced, achieving green and low-carbon production. Currently, the selling price of petroleum coke used for pre-baked anodes is higher than that of ordinary 4A petroleum coke, serving as a new source of profit growth for enterprises.
