The function of the thermal relay in the motor drive circuit

While referring to the electrical design of various similar projects, I noticed a problem: in the main circuit design for motor drives, some circuits are equipped with thermal relay protection while others do not; especially in large motor control circuits, thermal relay protection is generally not used. In principle, the main circuit should be protected by a thermal relay; it’s not clear why some circuits do not require such protection. If any colleagues are aware of this, please offer some guidance.
