Problems with on-site compensation for soft start

The water pump is started using soft starting, and a compensation circuit is connected to the incoming side of the soft starter. When is the best time to activate this compensation? Should it be activated after the soft starter bypass is engaged, or right at the start of the startup process? Why?
It is better to engage capacitive compensation after the soft-start bypass is activated during the startup process. Overvoltage is generated when the capacitor is connected, which can damage the electronic components inside the soft starter.
