A ball screw drive system is a type of rolling screw transmission that uses balls as the rolling medium. Classified by transmission type, it converts rotational motion into linear motion ; Converting linear motion into rotational motion: two methods. Ball screws have the following advantages: First, they provide smooth motion. The ball screw transmission system features point-contact rolling motion, which results in low frictional resistance during operation, high sensitivity, no vibration at startup, and no crawling at low speeds; thus, precise control of small amounts of feed is possible. II. High transmission efficiency: The transmission efficiency of ball screw drive systems is as high as 90%~98%, which is 2~4 times that of traditional sliding screw systems. Therefore, it is possible to achieve a large thrust with a relatively small torque, and it is also possible to convert linear motion into rotational motion (the motion is reversible). III. High precision: The ball screw drive system experiences minimal temperature rise during operation. Pre-tensioning can be used to eliminate axial clearance and to pre-stretch the screw in order to compensate for thermal expansion; as a result, high precision in positioning and repeat positioning is achievable. IV. Good synchronization: Due to smooth movement, rapid response, no obstruction, and no slippage, using the same ball screw drive system to drive multiple identical components or devices simultaneously enables excellent synchronization. V. High durability: The rolling contact areas of the steel balls are hardened (HRC58~63) and precisely ground, ensuring that the operation relies solely on rolling motion. VI. High reliability: Compared to other transmission mechanisms, hydraulic systems, ball screw transmission systems have a very low failure rate. Maintenance for ball screws is also simple – only regular lubrication and dust protection are required. It can operate without lubrication on special occasions. VII. No backlash and high rigidity: The ball screw transmission system features a Gothic arch-shaped groove, which enables optimal contact between the steel balls and the groove for smooth operation. By applying an appropriate preload to eliminate the axial clearance, the balls can achieve better rigidity, reducing the elastic deformation between the ball screw and the screw shaft, thereby achieving higher precision.
