May I ask, are the PSA nitrogen generation units produced in China stable nowadays, and prone to failure? We are going to install one with a capacity of 240 Nm3/h. Output 06-0.8mpag. Purity 99.5%. Used for purging gasoline and diesel, do nitrogen generation units usually come equipped with gas detectors? Will it give an alarm if the oxygen level exceeds the limit?
We don’t have a nitrogen production unit, but the PSA systems for hydrogen and CO production are working very well; aside from occasional issues with the programmable valves, they are quite stable.

Our company has a nitrogen production system with a capacity of 1000 NM3/h; the system you have installed is likely a preliminary nitrogen generation system, and its main components are air compressors, refrigerated dryers, and adsorption towers (molecular sieves). The normal purity level achieved is 99.9%. The problems we encounter with this system are as follows: 1. The exhaust temperature of the air compressor (screw type) is too high; 2. The dew point of the cold dryer is on the high side ; 3. The solenoid valves in the adsorption tower units are prone to failure ; Equipped with an oxygen analyzer; automatic venting and alarms when the set values are too high ;
PSA nitrogen generation systems operate stably, with the nitrogen purity remaining above 99.5%. Typically, such systems are equipped with detectors for nitrogen purity; an alarm is triggered when the purity falls below 99.5%. It is also possible to set a lower threshold value on the DCS based on the production conditions in order to receive alerts in such cases.

You can agree on the configuration of the PSA nitrogen generation system with the manufacturer during the bidding process; generally, a nitrogen purity monitoring and alarm system, adsorption pressure, and gas production pressure are standard features. There are currently two main types of PSA nitrogen generation systems available on the market: those equipped with a compression device and those without one. Personally, I prefer nitrogen generators that come with a compression device. The factors affecting nitrogen purity are mainly the leakage of the inlet and outlet valves, operating pressure, amount of regeneration gas, and the pulverization/loss/mass of the molecular sieve. It is also necessary to choose suppliers with advanced process technologies, so that equipment maintenance can ensure a purity level of 99.5% with no major issues
