Installation and Use of Rake-Type Water Flow Switches

Two new chiller units have been installed. To ensure the safe operation of these units, rake-type flow switches were installed at the outlets of both the chilled water pumps and the cooling water pumps. A short section of straight pipe was welded in front of the 1-inch threaded connections. During testing, it was found that even when the pump discharge valves were closed, the flow switches did not activate, and thus could not provide protection for the units. Later, the straight pipe was removed and the wire was welded directly to the pipeline. Yet even though the water flow was high, the flow switch kept activating, causing the unit to shut down automatically and preventing it from operating properly. As a solution, the flow switch was short-circuited, but this no longer provided any protection for the unit. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the installation or something else
The pump outlet pressure is unstable; it can be installed at the inlet of the chiller
The chiller manufacturer requires it to be installed on the outlet pipe of the pump.
Is the area of the target flow sheet too small? Or is there no vertical water flow direction?
Maybe the tines are too small, thank you!
You might try using a wider rake blade. Thank you!
