Approaches: 1. Raise people’s awareness of energy conservation. Raising people’s awareness of energy conservation refers not only to increasing the awareness among the general public, but mainly to enhancing the awareness of energy conservation among HVAC designers. Designers must have a clear approach during the design process, and after thorough technical and economic comparisons, select the energy-saving measures that are most suitable for the specific requirements of the project. Designers need to pay attention to thoroughly understanding the air conditioning requirements of each room when designing air conditioning systems. Whether the system should use a centralized cooling source or a built-in cooling source needs to be determined by taking into account various factors such as the initial investment, daily operating costs, and the patterns of user load variations ; As we all know, rooms with significant differences in load characteristics should be equipped with separate air conditioning systems. Therefore, for certain rooms where the time during which air conditioning is used differs markedly from that of other rooms in the same building, it is necessary to install air conditioners with their own cooling sources in those rooms. When selecting the number of refrigerators and their capacity in large and medium-sized buildings, it is necessary to ensure a proper balance between them. We should choose a smaller refrigerator based on the minimum load during the transitional seasons; this approach not only meets the cooling needs when the system is operating at lower loads but also helps reduce energy consumption. 2. Part-load operation of the air conditioning system Since the vast majority of air conditioning systems operate at part load for most of the time, when selecting the refrigeration unit, we can choose one among multiple chiller units and configure it as an inverter-driven unit, so as to adjust the output of the refrigeration unit during part-load operation of the system. This is also a very important energy-saving approach in the settings of air conditioning systems. 3. Use energy-efficient enclosure structures In building design, it is necessary to give full consideration to reducing the building’s energy consumption by employing energy-efficient enclosure structures, thereby lowering the load on the air conditioning system. HVAC designers need to communicate thoroughly with architects and clients, select the enclosure structure and building layout appropriately, and consider implementing suitable shading measures. This can effectively reduce the energy wasted by the air conditioning system due to heat loss from the building envelope. 4. Utilizing renewable energy In our country, building energy consumption currently accounts for about one-third of the total energy consumption in society. The residential area in the northern heating cities of our country accounts for only 10% of the total residential area in urban areas across the country, yet the building energy consumption accounts for 40%. The largest energy consumption in buildings in our country during use is for heating and cooling. It must be said that the energy-saving potential in this area is enormous. When choosing the cooling and heating sources for air conditioning, in addition to conventional options, we can also take local conditions into account by using renewable energy sources. In architectural design and HVAC design, solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, and other forms of energy should be fully utilized as primary energy sources. There is a need to promote the use of renewable energy in buildings and to develop new types of energy-efficient buildings that integrate such renewable energy sources into their structure.
Central air conditioning: improving the energy efficiency ratio of the equipment, using a zoned layout, properly selecting chillers, and applying variable air volume systems. Air-conditioning water system: Selected based on the characteristic curve of the water pump; a variable air volume system and a variable flow rate water system are used to organize the airflow properly, with attention paid to the hydraulic balance of the water system’s branch loops. Thermal storage air conditioning: During periods of low load on the power grid, thermal storage air conditioning systems are used to generate cooling, with the cold energy being stored in the form of chilled water, ice, or solid matter. During peak times for air conditioning use, that is, when the power grid is under high demand, the stored cold energy is utilized to supply cooling to the air conditioning systems. This approach helps reduce the capacity required for air conditioning equipment and lowers the operating costs of the system.
