From January 3 to 8, 2024, the 3 slurry bed reactors, which are part of the 3 million tons per year slurry bed residue hydrogenation unit in Zhejiang Petrochemical’s new materials project, were successfully installed. This marks the first time in the world that China National Nuclear Machinery Engineering has used a crawler crane for the primary lifting operation to successfully lift a 3,000-ton slurry bed reactor as a whole. It not only set a global record for the heaviest load lifted by a single crawler crane in such an operation but also established a record for the fastest speed at which a single crawler crane can lift nearly 10,000 tons over a period of 6 days. This once again demonstrates the company’s innovative capabilities and comprehensive strength as an internationally leading provider of services for the lifting and transportation of large-scale equipment. The slurry bed reactor is the core equipment of the 3# Slurry Bed Residue Hydrogenation Unit. Each reactor weighs 3,037 tons and has a height of 67.57 meters; there are 3 such reactors in total, giving a lifting weight of nearly 10,000 tons. There are numerous challenges, such as the equipment being tall and heavy, the limited space available for lifting, high load rates when using existing cranes, insufficient lifting height of the cranes, an insufficient length of the main lifting ropes to allow connection between the crane’s hook and the equipment’s lid, a limited number of temporary support brackets, high pressure exerted by the cranes on the ground, long distances that the cranes need to travel while carrying loads, and slow speeds for moving the foundation boxes – all of which make the lifting process extremely difficult. Changing from the conventional hydraulic lifting system with a main crane for lifting, this approach introduces for the first time a technique in which a single crawler crane is used as the main crane to lift a 3,000-ton slurry bed reactor as a whole. By carrying out 8 upgrades on the 3,600-ton crane in collaboration with the crane manufacturers, and combining these efforts with 6 lifting technology innovations developed by China National Nuclear Machinery Engineering, the aforementioned problems were successfully resolved. As a result, the installation time was reduced from 6 months to 2.5 months, yielding significant economic and social benefits. .
