【Project in Progress】All large-scale over-sized tower vessels for Jilin Petrochemical’s 1.2 million tons/year ethylene plant have been lifted into place

At 9:57 on January 18, 2024, the No. 2 propylene column of the 1.2 million tons per year ethylene plant in China Petroleum Jilin Petrochemical Company’s project for the transformation and upgrading of its refining and chemical operations was successfully hoisted into place; once the column was in place, the lights were turned on. This marked the completion of the hoisting of all the large-scale, oversized tower structures at this facility, and the process moved forward to the stages of equipment installation and process piping. The newly built 1.2 million tons per year ethylene plant features 17 oversized tower vessels, among which 5 large-sized ones require the use of a 4,000-ton main crane and a 1,250-ton auxiliary crane for lifting. The No. 2 propylene tower lifted this time is the last of the 5 large-scale, oversized towers; it is also the tallest tower in this facility and the most difficult to lift, making it a veritable \"king of towers\". The tower was constructed using a method of segmented manufacturing, segmented transportation, and overall lifting. With a length of 111.25 meters and a total lifting weight of 2,030.8 tons, it is one of the vertical reactors in China that has the greatest lifting weight, the largest volume, and the highest height among such devices.
