On July 6, good news came from the construction site of the EPC turnkey project for a 70,000 cubic meter centralized air separation compressor unit undertaken by China Air Separation in Fujian Fuhai Chuang – the concrete pouring for the foundation of the fractionation tower’s cold box was completed successfully, marking a significant breakthrough at a key stage of the project and laying a solid foundation for subsequent equipment installation and process pipeline construction. As one of the core components of an air separation unit, the cold box of the fractionation tower has a direct impact on the stable operation of the entire unit, depending on the quality of its foundation construction. Compared to previous instances, this pouring involves the casting of mass concrete, which imposes strict requirements on the pouring sequence, moisture retention for curing, circulating water cooling, and temperature control within the foundation. In particular, the foundation of the air separation cold box had more than 760 cubic meters of concrete poured in one go over a period of 11 hours, from 21:30 on the evening of July 5 to 8:30 in the early morning of July 6. The covered area was 455.25 square meters, with a maximum thickness of 2.2 meters. The project team organized the work scientifically and managed it meticulously, ensuring that the pouring task was completed successfully in one go with high quality, which created favorable conditions for the subsequent lifting of the cryogenic tank. As the general contractor for the project, the China Air Separation project team made full use of its advantages in integrated design, procurement, and construction, engaging deeply in every stage from scheme review and construction briefings to ongoing supervision. The Party member task force took the lead in carrying out the work, organizing technical experts to work together with the construction teams; strict controls were applied to key aspects such as foundation treatment, rebar binding, and formwork support, to ensure that the construction quality met the design specifications. Furthermore, the project team effectively addressed the difficulties encountered during construction through regular project meetings and specialized coordination sessions, demonstrating a high level of responsibility and professional management skills. Faced with the persistent high temperatures and humid climate in the region since the onset of summer, as well as the challenges of a tight schedule and heavy workload, the project team took the lead in working overtime, staying at the construction site, coordinating resource allocation, overseeing the implementation of safety measures, and carrying out activities such as providing relief from the heat. Through these practical actions, they inspired all those involved in the project, providing momentum for its efficient progress and ensuring the successful completion of the pouring operations. The successful completion of the foundation for the cold box of this fractionation tower represents an important step forward in bringing Fujian Fuhai Chuang’s 70,000 cubic meter centralized air separation and air compression project to operational status.
