[Haichuan Overseas Engineering] Commissioning Ceremony Held for Zambia United Capital Fertilizer Project

A commissioning ceremony was held for the Zambia United Capital Fertilizer Project, which is under EPC general contracting by Sinochem. On October 16, a commissioning ceremony was held in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, for the Zambia United Capital Fertilizer Project, which is under EPC general contracting by Sinochem Engineering Group Co., Ltd. This project is the first modern urea plant in the Southern African region.
Recently, the Zambia fertilizer project, which is under the general contracting of Sinochem China Fifth Ring Company, has successively achieved several key milestones. After successfully commissioning the coal transportation system, starting the boilers to generate steam for power generation via turbines, the project has now also completed the trial operation of the air separation compressor turbines as well as the combined testing of the compressors. This represents a significant breakthrough in the operation of the plant’s power systems and core rotating equipment, providing a solid foundation for advancing the testing of the main process units. As the core driving force for the entire plant’s operation, the successful ignition of the boilers to generate steam and the operation of the turbines to produce electricity indicate that the Zambia Fertilizer Project has successfully established the key processes of \"coal transportation – boiler steam generation – steam conversion – power output\", thereby creating a stable and reliable self-sufficient energy supply system. This not only provides the necessary power and steam power for the commissioning of the main process units, but also eliminates the reliance on the external power grid, laying a solid foundation for the low-cost and stable operation of the project after it is completed. Following the grid connection of the project’s power generation, the trial startup of the air separation compressor turbine and the joint commissioning of the compressor were successfully completed, marking another important milestone in the progress of the project. The completion of the commissioning of this key unit will provide high-quality instrument air and purge gas for the process pipelines and equipment, which is an essential prerequisite for ensuring the safe and clean operation of the subsequent process units. The timely completion of this commissioning phase marks the transition of the project from the debugging of auxiliary equipment/systems to the actual commissioning of the chemical processing units. It kicks off the commissioning process for the main processes such as gasification, ammonia synthesis, and urea production, taking another crucial step toward achieving the ultimate goal of completing the entire production process and producing qualified urea products. This represents that this highly anticipated modern fertilizer plant in Africa has entered the countdown phase leading to its operation. Taking this milestone as an opportunity, the Zambia fertilizer project team will carry out subsequent testing activities in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that the project is put into operation on schedule with high quality, thereby providing strong impetus for Zambia’s food security and industrial modernization.
