The pouring of the intermediate ore heap raft slab for the KFM project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was completed on October 28. The Sixth Branch of China National Chemical Engineering Corporation completed the pouring of this slab for the construction work in the mining and processing area of the KFM Phase II project 7 days ahead of schedule. The project is located in the KFM mining area of Kisanfu town, Kulwezi city, Lualaba Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. It mainly includes works such as rough crushing for Phase II, intermediate ore piles, grinding, hard rock crushing, flotation, reagent preparation, concentrate thickening, tailings thickening, CCD, auxiliary power distribution rooms, and various road and supporting facilities. Once the project is completed and put into operation, the processing capacity for copper-cobalt ore will be 6.6 million tons per year, with copper production reaching 80,000 tons per year and cobalt production reaching 40,000 tons per year. The raft slab is 91 meters long, 10.2 meters wide, and 1.5 meters thick; it was poured in three sections, with a total concrete volume of 1,300 cubic meters. To address challenges such as frequent heavy rains and a shortage of local concrete supply, the project team coordinated the allocation of mechanical equipment and human resources, optimized the concrete mix ratio at appropriate times to reduce the risk of cracks caused by hydration heat, and ensured the overall safety and durability of the structure. During critical periods, the in-house mixing plant operates 24/7, with shift work ensuring continuous pouring and providing a solid foundation for the steady progress through these critical stages.
