The primary circulating water pipeline for the CAA-1 project in Indonesia has been fully installed. Recently, the installation of the primary circulating water pipeline for the CAA-1 caustic soda project was completed, and it passed the quality inspection successfully, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent installation of the secondary circulating water pipeline. As the core of all the auxiliary engineering installations in the facility, the construction progress of the primary circulating water pipelines is directly related to the advancement of the entire project. Faced with the complex construction conditions on site, the project team carried out scientific planning and meticulous organization; employees from China and abroad worked together, volunteering to work extra hours, and successfully completed the construction tasks before the rainy season. This not only secured valuable time for subsequent works but also helped to mitigate the impact of the rainy season on outdoor construction.
The CAA-1 project in Indonesia, with an annual production capacity of 420,000 tons of caustic soda and 500,000 tons of dichloroethane (EDC), is the first large-scale caustic soda + EDC complex project undertaken by a Chinese company overseas. The key details are as follows: Project overview – The project is located in Indonesia and is built under an EPC turnkey contract model; it is constructed by Chengda Company, with the Indonesian branch of China National Chemical 14th Construction Corporation responsible for the actual construction work. Upon completion, the project will become the world’s largest caustic soda plant of its kind, as well as the largest EDC plant using the high and low temperature oxychlorination process in Southeast Asia. Significance of the project: This project represents a significant breakthrough for Chengda Company in the traditional Indonesian market. It is also an important step taken by Chinese engineering companies to implement the Belt and Road Initiative, demonstrating China’s technical advantages and international competitiveness in the field of chlor-alkali engineering. Project Progress: On March 20, 2024, a signing ceremony for the project was held at the headquarters of the Balido Group in Indonesia. On July 30, 2025, the project officially commenced, marking the entry of the construction work into its substantive phase. Technical highlights: EDC is produced using an advanced high and low temperature oxychlorination process, a technology that leads in scale in Southeast Asia and helps improve the technical level of the local chemical industry. This project is not only of great significance for the development of the local chemical industry in Indonesia, but it also provides a new benchmark for Chinese companies to compete in the international chemical market.
