Construction of Nippon Steel Group’s advanced and efficient CO2 capture and utilization project begins On October 30, the 180,000 tons per year CO2 advanced and efficient capture and utilization project owned by Rizhao Iron and Steel Holding Group Co., Ltd. commenced construction. The project is jointly implemented by Rizhao Iron and Steel Holding Group, University of Science and Technology Beijing, and Xi’an Thermal Power Research Institute, with a total investment of 135 million yuan. The project captures, compresses, and utilizes carbon dioxide from 300 tons of converter gas, establishing a closed-loop system for \"capture–utilization\". Upon completion of the project, it will generate annual economic benefits of 82.6 million yuan, achieving a win-win situation in terms of environmental protection and economic benefits. As a highly exemplary low-carbon project in the industry, it will provide replicable and scalable technical approaches for the green and low-carbon development of the steel industry. In recent years, Lanshan District has continued to deepen industry-university-research cooperation with institutions such as the University of Science and Technology Beijing, in order to systematically address the key challenges facing the industry. In key areas such as green and low-carbon metallurgy, a total of 37 science and technology research and development projects at or above the provincial level have been carried out, with total investment in R&D across society exceeding 3.073 billion yuan. It encourages key enterprises such as Nippon Steel Group to focus on upgrading their products and restructuring their operations, as well as on leveraging intelligence to foster integration; 268 projects for ultra-low emission upgrades have been carried out to accelerate the sustainable, low-carbon development of the industry.
