On the morning of October 1, 2019, local time in Indonesia, the EPC contract for Indonesia’s KAN nitric acid and ammonium nitrate project was officially signed in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The KAN nitric acid and ammonium nitrate project in Indonesia was carried out by a consortium formed by China National Chemical Caiding Engineering Company and WIKA, Indonesia’s largest state-owned engineering company. At 4:52 p.m. on March 30, 2022, after nearly two and a half hours of meticulous planning, the absorption tower for the nitric acid plant at Saiding Company’s KAN nitric acid and ammonium nitrate project in Indonesia was successfully installed. The absorption tower is a key piece of equipment in the nitric acid plant, and this milestone marks the full entry of the KAN project into the phase of installing process equipment. The nitric acid absorption tower is a key piece of equipment in nitric acid production facilities. It has a diameter of 3.2 meters, a height of 63 meters, and a weight of 150 tons. A 550-ton crawler crane is used for main lifting, while a 200-ton crawler crane is used for assisting with the lifting process. Due to the limited space available for lifting operations at the site, and in order to ensure the safe execution of the lifting work on the absorption tower, the project team convened several meetings with the construction contractor to discuss the lifting plan, and also used mock-ups with the same length as the absorption tower to conduct simulated lifting tests.
Since its commencement in 2020, the KAN nitric acid and ammonium nitrate project in Indonesia entered a full-scale acceleration phase for mechanical completion in May 2023. At the project site, the individual testing of the compressor units, which are the core equipment of the entire plant, is about to be completed; the individual testing of the other pumps, fans, and other moving equipment used in the ammonium nitrate pipeline system has already been finished. On-site staff are preparing for the subsequent testing of the equipment. Indonesia is the second-largest market for Sinochem Group, and it is also an important overseas market for Caiding Company. During the project construction process, the project team of Saiding Company established good relationships with local enterprises and residents, presenting a positive image of Chinese companies abroad and serving as an important window for overseas markets to gain insight into the current development of China’s equipment manufacturing industry.
On October 4, 2023, the KAN nitric acid and ammonium nitrate project operated by Saiding Company in Indonesia produced nitric acid of 58% concentration, meeting the required standards; the hot test run achieved partial success, helping to establish a positive brand image for China National Chemical Corporation in Indonesia. Since the commencement of construction of the KAN nitric acid and ammonium nitrate project in Indonesia, the general contractor of the consortium has overcome numerous difficulties and successfully completed all tasks related to design, procurement, and construction. During the system-wide thermal testing phase, all members of the project team worked tirelessly for several days and nights, from organizing the testing procedures to identifying and resolving issues. Thanks to the concerted efforts of everyone in the project team, high-quality nitric acid was ultimately produced.
