On December 5, the steel structural framework of the Hunan Petrochemical Biomass Gasification Flexible Platform project, weighing 130 tons, was successfully lifted into place. With this, the main gasification framework of the project has been completed, marking the successful finish of the heavy-lift installation work. Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Company, the EPC (design, procurement, construction) contractor for the project, began civil engineering work in July. From November 24 to December 5, it successfully completed four large-scale safe lifting operations for the converter, the fluidized bed gasifier, as well as the two steel structures in the second and third stages, thereby achieving the completion of the structure. The overall progress of the project is currently 85%. The project utilizes the pressurized circulating fluidized bed (SFBG) and gas-fluidized bed (SEBG) biomass gasification technologies independently developed by Sinopec. Once completed and put into operation, this project will allow for flexible switching between two gasification technologies for the complete gasification of biomass. It can process 150 tons of biomass pellets per day, with an effective gas production rate of 5,700 standard cubic meters per hour; the syngas produced is then fed into synthesis units to manufacture liquid ammonia. This platform not only provides essential engineering validation for the large-scale application of two biomass gasification technologies, namely pressurized circulating fluidized bed (SFBG) and streamized bed gasifier (SEBG), but also promotes the sustainable utilization of biomass resources in Hunan’s petrochemical industry, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 140,000 tons per year.
