Is pure nitrogen or an inert gas used for the pre-cooling of LNG tanks?
This post was last edited by qugd on 2017-9-20 at 12:38. Nitrogen is essentially an inert gas in chemical processes, as its chemical reactivity is very low. If truly inert gases are used, which company can afford them? Even the cheapest argon costs about 3 to 4 times as much as nitrogen, and helium, neon, krypton, and xenon are even more unaffordable.
In the shipbuilding industry, the inert gases referred to sometimes are those produced by inert gas generators; these generators burn fuel, and their main components are nitrogen and CO2. I’m not sure whether these can be used to degrade LNG tanks
It can be pre-cooled directly with LNG; our 20,000 cubic meter LNG storage tank is pre-cooled using LNG.
It’s liquid nitrogen, not the nitrogen referred to here
If there are no special requirements, liquid nitrogen is definitely available; it’s cheap and the temperature is suitable
