According to the 2018 revised version of the 50160 fire protection regulations, LNG is classified as a liquefied hydrocarbon; therefore, LNG pumps must now be installed outside the fire dike. To meet the operating requirements of the pump, the LNG pipeline needs to pass through a fire dike. According to the standards, the areas where pipelines pass through fire dikes must be tightly sealed with non-combustible materials. However, LNG pipelines are low-temperature liquids that require insulation to prevent heat loss; so how should such areas be sealed in this case?
I am familiar with a foreign sealing technology for refrigeration pipelines passing through walls, but whether it is suitable for ultra-low temperature pipes such as those used in LNG still needs to be discussed with the manufacturer. The main brands available on the market are MCT and ROXTEC; both of these are well-known European brands that have been widely used abroad with great success. In China, large companies such as Hengli Petrochemical, Sinopec, and CNPC make use of these systems frequently. The product quality is reliable, and they come with numerous international certification certificates, but their price is relatively high. Considering cost-effectiveness, if the safety requirements at the site are not high, it is recommended to opt for the traditional method of using fire-resistant cement for filling.
