When an LNG carrier arrives at the receiving station, are the ESD1 hot and cold signal tests required to be carried out with the ESD valves also operating in conjunction? Should we still only measure the ESD signal, without activating the valve? Is there a regulatory basis?
Different LNG receiving stations adopt different approaches. At present, there are no **specific requirements or industry standards stipulating that valves must be operated prior to conducting SIS tests. In China, LNG receiving stations mainly conduct tests to determine whether interlocks related to risks that may arise during unloading can be activated, and whether the valves function properly. Different stations use varying methods: in both cold and hot conditions, tests can be limited to signal checks alone, or valve activation can also be carried out. When the equipment is functioning properly, it is recommended to operate the valves to ensure the safety of LNG ships during unloading, as well as to safeguard the safety of the receiving stations themselves!
