According to Sinochem News, on November 21, the Japanese energy company Teikoku Oil Development announced that its blue hydrogen and ammonia demonstration plant located in Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, has been officially put into operation. The company stated that this is the first project in Japan to achieve full integration of blue hydrogen and ammonia from production to utilization. It is reported that the natural gas raw material required for production at the factory comes from the Minaminagano gas field, which is owned by Inpex and located in another area of Niigata Prefecture. The by-product carbon dioxide generated during the production process will be captured and injected into the underground reservoirs of the Higashi-Kashiwazaki gas field for sequestration. Inpex revealed that the bulk of the blue hydrogen produced by the plant will be used for power generation, with the electricity fed into Niigata Prefecture’s power grid; the remaining portion will be converted into ammonia and supplied to relevant customers within Niigata Prefecture. This blue hydrogen and ammonia production project has received subsidy support from the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization of Japan (NEDO), and it is an important part of the organization’s special program for \"Development of Technologies for the Utilization and Production of Fuel Ammonia/Development of Technologies for Blue Ammonia Production\".
