What are the differences between chlorides, chloride ions, and residual chlorine? What are the main methods for measuring these three substances?:) Let’s discuss it together
Chlorides refer to a general term for compounds composed of chloride ions and other ions; Chloride ions are simply individual chloride ions. Residual chlorine can be divided into combined residual chlorine (referring to compounds of chlorine and ammonia in water, including NH2Cl, NHCl2, and NHCl3; among these, NHCl2 is the most stable and provides better disinfection effects), also known as bound residual chlorine ; Free residual chlorine (referring to OC1+, HOCl, Cl2, etc. in water; it has a fast sterilization speed and strong bactericidal power, but disappears quickly), also known as free residual chlorine ; Total residual chlorine is the sum of combined residual chlorine and free residual chlorine. For chloride ions, we use potassium chromate as an indicator and silver nitrate for titration; residual chlorine is measured directly using instruments.
Learn* it a bit. What equipment is used to measure residual chlorine?
Lianhua Technology’s CLO3H, a newly released instrument. We use Lianhua Technology’s analyzers for most of our purposes; they come with built-in curves, and we also need to purchase Lianhua’s specialized reagents, making them user-friendly instruments.
