How should benchtop pH meters and electrodes be maintained when not in use for long periods, so that using them after several months does not affect the accuracy of the instruments?
If a pH electrode is not used for an extended period, it should be stored by immersing it in a pH 7 buffer, or protected with a specialized electrode cap soaked in a buffer solution. Before reuse, it must be calibrated with a standard buffer before use.

The situation stabilized once new electrodes were used. Could storing the instrument and electrodes at too low temperatures also affect their lifespan?

Before and after each use of the pH meter, it is necessary to check whether the liquid inside the electrode protective cover is fully immersed in the glass membrane section; if not, sufficient liquid must be added, and testing should only be carried out after soaking for at least 24 hours. Before and after use, clean the electrode glass membrane part with distilled water, gently dry it, and calibrate it using a calibration solution.
