There is a mixture of small yellow particles and small white pieces; I’m not sure what substance it is 1. Dissolve the substance in deionized water; the addition of silver nitrate solution results in the formation of a white precipitate, indicating the presence of CL in the substance ; 2. According to the hardness test, the hardness is very high ; 3. Dissolve this substance in anhydrous ethanol; it is insoluble ; 4. The color of the mixture solution is wine red; the yellow particles when dissolved alone give a burgundy color, while the white lumps are light yellow in color ; 5. Spreading particles on coarse filter paper can cause an explosion. I would appreciate it if you could advise me on what I should do next to determine what this substance is
It is recommended to send it to an element testing center for analysis, to determine the composition of chlorides.
Upon close inspection, there are also small black-like particles in the mixture.
It is insoluble in anhydrous ethanol and lacks a wine-red color; ethanol has a reducing effect on potassium permanganate, so these small black particles must be potassium permanganate.
Chloride ions are not the only ones that form a white, opaque substance with silver ions; silver sulfate is also white. Furthermore, chlorides and permanganates cannot coexist. This mixture should be systematically identified; a mere one or two isolated qualitative tests (and not the specific reactions used by qualitative analysts) are insufficient for making a determination regarding the substance.

Yes, I also advised my friend to send it to a qualified testing laboratory for analysis. However, my friend just wanted to know what it might be and asked for help in dealing with it. Our laboratory has limited facilities and capabilities, so we are seeking advice from others while working on this; sending it to a specialized institution for testing indeed requires a significant amount of money!

Sometimes, even spending money doesn’t guarantee success; without spending any money, success is certainly impossible, let alone achieving something that requires technical expertise. An important aspect of respecting technology is to invest some money in hiring professionals to handle tasks that require specialized skills. Going to a temple to pray to useless clay statues while also spending money on incense and offerings is pointless; moreover, even the gods and deities cannot help with your problem. If you spare even the money for incense and offerings, there surely won’t be any real outcome.
