According to GB1884-2000, 59A is to be used for crude oil, while 59B is applicable to petroleum products. As a manufacturing enterprise that uses heavy oil as raw material, we sometimes encounter situations where we are not sure which density table to use for the crude oil arriving at the plant; as a result, the values obtained using 59A and 59B differ by more than 1 unit, leading to disputes with customers. In my opinion, any crude oil that has been extracted from underground and has not yet been processed should be analyzed using table A, whereas any processed heavy oil should be analyzed using table B. However, I am not sure if this understanding is correct. Some laboratories use table A for all heavy oils, including those that have been processed; they still apply table A to such processed heavy oils when they serve as raw materials. What do you think is the appropriate table to use in such cases?
