Testing cuvettes using a UV spectrophotometer

Not only is it necessary to be careful when handling them in daily use and to clean them promptly after use, but one also needs to choose new cuvettes carefully; it’s best to conduct tests on them oneself. If the newly purchased cuvettes are made of glass, absorbance can be measured in the visible light range; those made of quartz can have their absorbance measured in the ultraviolet light range. For a given set of cuvettes, it is preferable for the absorbance values to be as low as possible. For all the above measurements, it is sufficient to use an empty cuvette; no water or other samples are required.
