Rapid detection of sodium metabisulfite

I bought a bag of sodium sulfate from a Taobao store to use as an additive, and found that even with the same ratio, its quality was quite different from that of analytically pure anhydrous sodium sulfate. Out of curiosity, I conducted a comparison by adding barium chloride solution to see if any white precipitate would form; no precipitate appeared with the product from Taobao, but one did form with the laboratory-grade anhydrous sodium sulfate. Does this method of identification hold up?
It is possible to identify sulfate ions, but generally there are no chemical products that can mimic sodium sulfate, as it is after all an inexpensive substance. If 1 gram of barium sulfate sample is dissolved in 100 L of water, and the concentration of barium chloride is not too dilute – above 50 g/L – and no white turbidity appears upon adding it, then it can be determined that it is not sodium sulfate. The concentrations mentioned above are based on assumptions. For the identification of sulfate ions, it seems that a barium chloride solution with a concentration of 150–250 g/L is used as a standard
